Wally Lane, Mike Mikesell and Virginia Maxey of Olancha California discovered the geode in 1961. Wally Lane, however, seems to have gained sole possession of the geode sometime in 1963 or shortly thereafter.
In 1969 he offered the object for sale. At that time, the price was $25,000. It is not known, if he had any offers or if he still has the stone.
